The UK’s First Live TV Advert
Yesterday saw the UK’s first live TV advert. It aired on Channel 4 at 8.10pm, during Come Dine With Me, forming part of Honda’s latest campaign, “Difficult Is Worth Doing”.
Shot in Spain, the three minute advert showed a group of skydivers jumping out of a plane, and then forming the letters H, O, N, D, A mid-air, before disbanding. At one point, during the formation of N, it looked as though it might all go wrong, but other than that everything about it was seamless, from the weather conditions to the sound to the engineering. Truly a spectacular advert.
According to the Guardian, the advert was also remarkably cheap to make:
The entire budget, from sandwiches and fuel for the planes through to the airtime on Channel 4, is understood to have been around £500,000.
The advert boosted Channel 4′s ratings in the timeslot, with an estimated 2.2 million viewers tuning in, an increase of about 8% compared to normal.
Here’s the advert in all it’s glory:

Welcome…
So, you might be wondering why I’ve set up a blog. It’s not that I think my life is particularly interesting or anything, and I don’t have great advice to give out, but I thought I’d give it a go.
The idea came to me when I was supposed to be revising for a Molecular Genetics exam tomorrow morning, though I have been meaning to set up a blog for some time now. A few days ago, I found out that I was accepted onto a placement programme at the University of Nevada, Reno, and by setting up a blog, I can keep in touch with my family and friends back in the UK, and use it as a way to update them, and show the photos of what I’m getting up to.
So, I guess I should introduce myself… I’m a 19 year old student at Queen’s University, Belfast studying Biomedical Science. I’m very much into music (I get quite excited when I find a new artist or band), and also film. I’m a bit of a geek as well…
I’ll probably also use this blog to post things about music I find, photos I like, or videos I come across, but mainly I’m hoping to have the willpower to post on here pretty regularly!
